Luck Or Hardwork?
This is just how I see it
Short Story
October 2021, I was an undergraduate student looking for where to carry out my SIWES program.
November 2021, I got a chance to intern with one of the best fintech companies in Nigeria.
November 2022, I have been here for one year, I have gotten a contract extension twice while doing stuff I love and learning as much as possible.
How did I get here?
Before getting the offer, I had a couple of places in mind that I was hoping I could join their team while also getting offers from places I wasn’t interested in because I wasn’t sure they were right for me.
The problem I had was that those I had an interest in didn’t want me ( not hiring interns or I was just getting ghosted) till I got lucky.
One of those I reached out to earlier was someone who was seeing me put in the work needed to thrive in a particular role which made her decide to put in a word for me and I got in and the rest is history.
I know I definitely got in by luck but while acknowledging my luck, I can’t discredit the work I put in.
One thing about luck is how relative it is to access.
Using my case, I had access to the person which allowed her to see my effort to be able to put in a word for me. There were other people who put in the same work as I did but didn’t have the same access.
Getting lucky is usually about finding yourself in the right places at the right time, in other to get lucky enough you need to work hard enough to get access to places your luck will shine.
While praying to get lucky, put yourself in a good situation to come across the kind of luck you need.
